The work Tribal Dance is crafted from a single block of Carrara marble. It depicts three feet in the act of dancing, a step suspended in time. The energy of the dance is made visible by the energy expressed in the visible marks left in the marble, where only the surface of the suspended foot is left smooth and refined, with veins pulsing with blood.
The sculpture is part of a new series that focuses on the idea of waste, of refuse. Using fragments of unused marble, amorphous or considered imperfect—scraps, in fact. Pieces of marble given a chance, in the belief that even waste of any kind can hold great potential.
The highly symbolic works of this series attempt to evoke an ancient, Paleolithic humanity, in which only the Clan and the Tribe mattered, in relation to Mother Nature.
